Javanese Calendar-Choosing Good Days

The Javanese calendar first came into use during the Mataram Kingdom. Under the rule of Sultan Agung Adi Prabu Hanyakrakusuma (1613-1645 AD), the Javanese calendar began to be widely used.

The date calculation on the Javanese calendar is unique. Because, in his calculations, the Javanese calendar is influenced by the Islamic, Hindu, and Julian calendars which originated from Rome. Because of the mixture of the three cultures, the Javanese calendar was obtained as it is today.

The Javanese calendar has five market days

Unlike the Gregorian calendar which has seven days, the Javanese calendar only has five days which is called the market. Well, the markets in the Javanese calendar are Pahing, Pon, Legi, Wage, and Kliwon.

Just like other cultures, Javanese culture has its own traditions. For one thing, they have their own calendar. Usually, those who still adhere to Javanese culture will always stick to the Javanese or weton calendar to determine the best day to do something.

For example, determining the date of marriage, date of moving house, or opening a business. Because of this calendar, Javanese people believe their business will be easier and minimize the risk or bad things that will happen to them.
